Oil Painting: Materials and Techniques

Further develop your approach to oil paint and explore the connection between materials, techniques, and expression in this six-day studio session. Students will paint from various subject matter, including people, still life, and the work of other artists, looking for the possibilities within each via different approaches to the medium. Light, form, color, surface, and mark will be explored ​through direct and indirect painting techniques such as impasto, grisaille, scumbling, and indirect painting. ​Demonstrations, slide lectures, discussions and copious amounts of painting time will support course content throughout. Prerequisite: Foundational and applied knowledge of oil painting along with having completed a body of work.
