Campus Expansion

Studio Improvements – Renovations of Studio 21 and Studio 17

We are thrilled to share that Studio 17 and Studio 21 (17 & 21 W Hwy 61, Grand Marais) are in the final stages of being transformed into classroom, exhibition, retail and studio space.

What was formerly a pharmacy and pet store is being transformed into a versatile, welcoming space, and we are so glad to be sharing it with you.

We hope you will plan to visit our new spaces this year, whether through taking a class, experiencing our 7-5 Summer Exhibition, or doing a studio residency where you explore art.

This project has stretched the Art Colony in so many ways, especially as it was launched just prior to the onset of the pandemic which caused multiple contractions in the arts sector. We are grateful to our members, donors, supporters and cheerleaders who have sustained us through this time.

At the Art Colony, we are committed to our programs that serve visual artists in seven different disciplines and we are committed to the three prongs of education, residencies and community engagement. Through all these avenues, we serve nearly 25,000 people annually.

This Campus Expansion initiative is nearly done. However, we are still running the race. This means that acquisition and renovation costs have totaled nearly $500,000 and we could use your support in helping to mitigate some of those expenses. The sooner we make a dent in those costs, the sooner we can direct all our resources to underwriting and growing our quality programs and increasing our scholarship funds to ensure full accessibility.

We would be honored if you chose to contribute to our Campus Expansion.

Thank you for sustaining the work we do.
