Beginning Watercolor

Explore the foundation of watercolor techniques to create a small series of watercolor paintings inspired by the majestic scenery and natural elements of Grand Marais. Students can work either outdoors, from photos, from natural objects collected on-site, or a combination of the three. Each day will begin with practice and guided experimentation time using techniques such as washes, dry brush, color lifting, and resists. Todd will incorporate some art history by way of viewing reproductions of Turner, Sargent and O’Keeffe to better understand how these artists made their watercolors as inspiration for students to develop their own skills.
