Youth Watercolor Online Series
We recently had the pleasure to partner with Cook County artist, Nan Onkka, to develop a series of winter watercolor lessons for students at several of our local schools. We will be making these lessons public during spring break March 22 – 26, so any young artist can have the opportunity to practice their watercolor skills.
There are 3 lessons that will build on each other to teach new skills. The videos will be posted to our YouTube account and will be free to access. Funding for this project was made possible thanks to the 2020 Cook County Budget Request.
Each lesson will be posted to our YouTube Channel at 11 AM following the schedule below. We will link to each video and a pdf lesson plan on this page as the videos become available.
- March 22 | 11 AM | Lesson 1: Northern Lights Landscape
- March 24 | 11 AM | Lesson 2: Snowy Mittens
- March 26 | 11 AM | Lesson 3: Winter Birch Trees
Anyone taking part in these lessons can find art supplies locally at Joy & Co. Mention that you are participating in these lessons to receive 10% off supplies for the class.

Grades 4 – 5 at ISD 166, 4 – 6 at Oshki Ogimaag Charter School, and 4 – 5 at Birch Grove Community School have already done these lessons or will do them through school.
We’d love to see what you create! Should you want to, please send a photo of your piece to: studios@grandmaraisartcolony.org and let us know if you are okay should we want to share your piece on one of our social media sites.
