Woodcut: Lines and Shadows

Woodcut is considered to be the earliest of all printmaking methods. This class is designed to intensify students’ experimentation with the woodcut printmaking process and will introduce or reinforce the following: types of wood to use, surface preparation, image design, carving techniques, tool maintenance, registration, inking, and pressing a print. Jun will give carving demonstrations to show a variety of ways to execute black and white lines in creating a print. The workshop is for all skill levels, but students need to be aware that it is a physically intense workshop.
