The Layered Image

Balance process, play, and content by building layers of color, composition, and imagery. Students will discover applications for monotypes and the transfer of imagery using inked xerox copies as a plate with paper lithography on an etching press. We will explore a variety of materials and methods to create depth and space between backgrounds and foregrounds with texture, mark making, and brushstrokes. Incorporate pattern, shape, and imagery from your own photographs and drawings to create dialog and narrative as a monoprint or further embellish your mixed media work. This workshop provides an opportunity for students to further develop existing projects and push their own limits. Prerequisite: while some printmaking experience is preferred, art/design decision making, and puzzle solving skills are recommended.
