Structural Slabs: Ways to Build

Explore possibilities of form, with a focus on slab construction. We’ll pursue idea generation methods, pattern making and support systems for generating slab structures both simple and complex. Plans will be provided for construction of The SlabSlingTM, a device of Lynn’s invention which aids in drying large-scale pieces. Discussions will include the surfaces possible with low temperature electric kiln firing, with an emphasis on creating rich layered surfaces. Time may permit the bisque firing of some pieces. Prerequisite: foundational experience with clay is required but it need not be handbuilding.
