Carborundum and Collagraph Printmaking

UPDATE: This class has been rescheduled from its previously scheduled dates of August 22 – 26 due to recommendations about social distancing and COVID- 19. The new dates, as outlined here, are September 21 – 25, 2020.

Discover the playful experimentation of collagraph! Collagraph printmaking is a versatile print form where textured plates are made from scratch that can be printed in intaglio or relief styles. Materials such as carborundum are applied to the plate’s surface that add a painterly, atmospheric feel to the print. Students will explore plate-making techniques, inking approaches, and how to pull finished prints. The open-ended nature of this print medium also allows for collaging processes and collaborative printing.
