VIRTUAL: Illustration with Pen and Marker: Endangered Species
Sarah will guide participants through three stages in order to create a fully realized and proportionate rendering of the endangered Henslow Sparrow. The class will start with methods for creating and ensuring the outline of the drawing is proportionate. In part two, Sarah will cover hatching and cross hatching using the Micron 005 pen, and how to use these techniques to create value and texture in your drawing. Finally, using markers and color layering techniques, the sparrow will be fully brought to life. Sarah has created helpful worksheets to accompany participants at every stage of this workshop, making it accessible to all skill levels. By the end of this course you will have work you can be proud of, have experience with various pen techniques, color layering with markers and be equipped to draw proportionately
Sarah’s three virtual classes have been built together so that if you take more than one, many of the supplies and specific marker colors will overlap with one another and will not require a large re-purchase of markers.
Recommended Supply List
- Pencil, Eraser + Scratch Paper
- Micron 005 Pen
- Drawing Paper (Recommended: Bristol Smooth Surface 9×12 Drawing Paper ($10) or Legion Stonehenge White Paper 9×12 or 5×7 $10+)
- Markers: Copic Markers**
- Macadamia Nut YR30
- Sand White E42
- Cool Gray No. 1 C1
- Pale Gray Blue B60 OR Dull Lavender BV20
- Buttercup Yellow Y21
- Sand E33 or Hazelnut E23
- Warm Gray No 8 W8
- Pink Flamingo E01 or Pale Pink RV 10
** If you choose a different marker brand you want a VERY pale yellow or ivory color, a very light tan, the lightest gray you can find, a very light purple blue color and a soft yellow, a dark gray bordering on black or a very dark brown and a very very light peach or pink.
A note on the markers: you can purchase much cheaper marker sets that have a much broader range on amazon etc. These are great if you are just getting your feet wet, just be certain that if you do this you are getting sets with a broad range of light mid and dark tones in each color. Also be sure to pair it with hardy paper. Cheaper sets tend to ruin papers more easily when blending many colors together.
