VIRTUAL: Botanical Illustration with Pen and Marker
Explore the beautiful world of botanical drawing using an unconventional medium: Pen and Markers. Sarah will take you step-by-step, showing you how to draw proportionately, create texture using cross hatching and hatching and then finally offer guidance as you dive into color layering with your markers.
In this workshop Sarah will guide participants through the process of illustrating the floral and leaf components of botanicals. The course will start with methods to help create and ensure proportionate drawings. Next, Sarah will cover hatching and cross hatching using the Micron 005 pen. These techniques will then be used to create value and texture in the plant drawings. Finally, using markers and color layering techniques, the plant drawings will be fully brought to life. Sarah has created worksheets to pair with this course that will help you complete every phase of the process and to come away with techniques you can continue to work with after the class is done.
Sarah’s three virtual classes have been built together so that if you take more than one, many of the supplies and specific marker colors will overlap with one another and will not require a large re-purchase of markers.

A note on the markers: you can purchase much cheaper marker sets that have a much broader range on amazon etc. These are great if you are just getting your feet wet, just be certain that if you do this you are getting sets with a broad range of light mid and dark tones in each color. Also be sure to pair it with hardy paper. Cheaper sets tend to ruin papers more easily when blending many colors together.
