Jewelry Symposium Field Trip: North Shore Geology

Did you know that Sugarloaf Cove is a world class geologic site? Participants will investigate the Cove’s fascinating geologic history on the beach at the Cove, figure out who’s who in the rock world on the North Shore, and how this diversity of rocks got here. We’ll explore the fire and ice story of the creation of Lake Superior, and help you figure out which way is up in ancient lava flows.

The group will travel by bus from the Art Colony, leaving at 9 am. The field trip will run from 10 am – 12 pm and is classified as a beginner/easy hike. Following the field trip the group will stop for lunch at Mogul’s Grille and Tap Room at Caribou Highlands and then return to the Art Colony by 2 pm.
