Introduction to Soapstone Carving 21S9-1
Students will be introduced to the beauty of soapstone, which comes in a variety of colors and each unique stone’s colors are revealed only in the final polish. Deborah will teach students to carve their own small soapstone animal or bird by using files, rasps, and a bow saw. Soapstone is a very soft stone and easy to carve, making it possible to finish a piece over the two-day period, and Deborah will provide demonstrations as well as individual instruction.
