Introduction to Coptic Binding

Learn the classic Coptic stitch which dates back to the second century AD and is still used in parts of Egypt today. Students will learn the two-needle technique on their first book with wooden covers and, as time allows, the four-needle technique on a second book which will also include boards covered with decorative paper. Adapting the technique of interlacing threads in carpet making, a chain or link stitch is used to bind the sections together. Students will keep the curved binding needles used in class for future projects.
