Everything and the Kitchen Sink: Exploratory Painting Practices
Explore the false and tenuous dichotomy that exists between representational and non-objective art by working from a variety of sources including the figure, the landscape and appropriated imagery. Students will be asked to approach these familiar subjects using relatively unfamiliar painterly methods such as using masking fluid and metallic leaf, among others. Ideally this will strengthen your knowledge of material and technical painting issues while opening new avenues to explore within your work. During the course we will consider the ideas and works of artists associated with Fauvism, Cubism and Abstract Expressionism, as well as with contemporary painting practices.
The supply list for this class is pending and will be available shortly.
