Blackware Drum Firing

Purchase or bring a pottery vessel to have fired with the triple drum firing method. Through this technique, Coreena will show you how to achieve a beautiful shiny blackware surface. The fun will be in the communal effort and outdoor gathering while watching the pots magically transform.

Coreena will have a number of pre-made pieces for purchase ranging from $35 – $65. Each participant should bring one bundle of wood to the firing (small, the size you can pick up at a gas station).

If anyone wishes to bring a piece of their own, a raku clay body is recommended, burnished with at least 3 coats of terra sigillata. There is a $10 suggested donation for anyone bringing their own piece. Greenware pieces should be relatively small (6″x6″ max) and not have too many applique elements added to them (they can break off in this type of firing). The ware should not be bisque fired (only greenware). Simple work tends to work best.

There is no pre-registration necessary for this event. All payments will be processed at the event, which will take place outside of our clay studio.
