Beginning Drawing: The Figure
This course will introduce you to the fundamentals of perceptual drawing. Drawings will primarily be made from life. We will consider how different drawing media can be used to represent space, form, and light. You will be encouraged to consider the process of editing and revising work as a crucial creative component of making drawings. While the human form will serve as a constant motif in our work, students will generate drawings using a wide variety of methods. The numerous approaches to drawing the figure that we use will hopefully enrich your drawings both formally and conceptually. We will consider how various other artists have treated the human form in their own work through slide talks. We will pay special attention to the drawings of Seurat, Giacometti, the Cubists, De Kooning, and Richard Diebenkorn.
