Book Structure as Sculpture 21Pr8-1

How can we take the basics of bookbinding—folding, sewing, and gluing paper—to create sculptural book objects? This course will introduce students to a variety of folded book structures, several sewing patterns, and enclosures that can be mixed and matched to create one-of-a-kind sculptural book objects. We will explore lo-fi printmaking and traditional decorative paper techniques to apply color and pattern to our papers, and look at contemporary artists using these techniques in their own artwork.
