Virtual Class: Armchair Plein Air

Fall is a popular time to travel, but not in a pandemic. So, come travel and armchair plein air sketch with Tara Sweeney from the comfort and safety of your home. Tara has reached out to artists from France, Italy, Cuba, Sweden, and Lake Superior’s North Shore for weekly videos. She will share a new one each week, then demonstrate how to scout and plan a composition from the 180°-360° views as if we were on site. Working plein air is a wonderful way to simplify shapes, keep washes fresh, and bring lively brushwork back to your studio watercolor work. Photos, as convenient as they are, invite overworking. You’ll learn ways to bring together strengths from both approaches. Livestream and recorded demos on portable materials and travel-tested methods will have you out sketching close to home and up to speed whenever travel is possible again.

Students will need a reliable internet connection and Zoom account to participate. Full details will be sent to registered students.

9:30 – 11 AM: Livestream demo, Q&A

11 AM – 12 PM: Independent work time offline

12 – 12:30 PM: Share results, Q&A
