Bradel Binding

Invented in the 19th century by French binder Alexis Bradel, bradel binding is also called Bonnet or Bristol board binding and is a style of book binding with a hollow back. The binding is considered stronger than case binding and works well with small or large multi-signature books. Students will learn this binding technique through making a book and a cover. The cover itself will be constructed of a cloth spine and the face will be covered with marbled paper and book cloth.
