Summer Youth Art Camp (Ages 9 – 14)

CAMP DESCRIPTION & OVERVIEW

Add a hand-crafted book to your library! Students will learn a series of papermaking, book arts, and printmaking techniques in the process of creating their own unique book as well as a collaborative, all-class book.

Students must sign up for the entire week of camp and will be sent additional confirmation materials via mail.

Summer art camps are a partnership between the Art Colony and the North House Folk School, allowing students to mix and match morning and afternoon camp options and experience the creative opportunities available at each organization.

Students attending both camps are asked to bring a bag lunch for a one-hour lunch break and will be escorted between locations. All students are asked to bring a snack and water bottle.

REGISTRATION & SCHOLARSHIPS

Registration occurs on-line, however, if you are inquiring about scholarships, please call to confirm details and register by phone at 218-387-2737

CAMP OVERVIEW

 Papermaking | August 5

Students will collect and process found and recycled materials to create unique paper for covers of our books. The class will discuss a theme for a collaborative book and sketch out ideas for illustrations while paper dries.

 Simple Books | August 6

Students will learn several different folded, cut, and sewn book forms that will be used for their own books and also for the class’s collaborative book. The day will be used to finalize the sketches for linoleum blocks.

 Printmaking | August 7

Students will make linoleum images for their books and for book cloth as well as carve and proof the block and prepare images for books.

Printing in Two Colors | August 8

Students will print their first color, then recut the block and print the second color. While the printed sheets are drying, students can print the images for their individual books or print the cloth for the covers.

Putting Together our Library! | August 9

Students will bring all of the elements created over the week together and fold, cut, and sew the printed pages and cloth into finished books.
